Great Bar! Can't beat 25¢ Pool anywhere (Very well kept tables) ! Fair prices for drinks(CASH only!, though they have an atm there). Great Music and good place to meet people &/or hang with friends. A must go to bar if you are in the area. Tried a bunch of the other bars around, but always ended back at Pete's before the end of the night.

Went in and had one drink just to say I had been there and done that. Forgot to get a tee shirt, so I will probably go back! Smoke is terrible. Barkeep looks like Will Farrell, with lots of tats.
(3)Christy C.
Who doesn't love this place. So great even the author John Grisham wrote about them in his book.
(5)Becca B.
If Pete's isn't the epitome of a beach town dive bar, then I don't know what is. Dark, dirty, shabby, cheap. Pool is only a quarter. Ping pong, skill pool and foosball are free. Drinks are cheap enough. A fireball with coke was 90% fireball with a coke floater.. Don't need many of those! Mostly an older crowd. You almost expect to see a line of motorcycles out back. Bar is cash only, with an ATM in back corner of the original bar. Overall, it's a fun little place. A lot of locals, old rock and roll and dancing old ladies.
(4)Pamela D.
If you want a dive bar, this is it. Since 1933 this place had been serving good ol' beer. And btw they only accept cash. You can grab a drink and play pool, ping pong, some weird other game one foosball. Awesome music. Smoking is allowed inside so if you're sensitive to it, this is not the place for you. Good crowd. Don't expect anything fancy; especially with their ladies restrooms!
(5)John Y.
Beer cost a lot but pool is only a quarter a game and they have ping pong and foosball. Lots of fun, great place to relax with friends
(4)Jack B.
Its a fun place, morning, noon or night. Yeah, I said morning, cause sometimes its early morning and sometimes late morning when you go in there. You never know. The people, the pictures, the life, everyone has a story from Pete's. If you don't have a story from Pete's you need to go check it out and make your own history. A great local landmark that offers a lot to local residents.
(4)Morgan H.
It's a cool dive bar in Neptune Beach. It's casual, fun and cheap.
(3)Matthew V.
Pete's seems to be a pretty big staple of the Jax/Neptune/Atlantic beach dive bar scene. It pretty much fulfills every aspect of the definition of dive bar. Not a single fk is given and that's exactly how it should be. It's cash only (with a 3$ per transaction atm if I recall correctly) bar with the most eclectic (read: wonderfully tacky) decor, an assortment of cheap pool tables, and a single ping pong table with it's accommodating wooden paddles. This is definitely not the place you need to go business casual for. In fact, you may have to dress down just to get in the right mindset for swinging by. It was a fun escape with friends for a night fueled by cans of PBR and ping pong for a few hours. Location is nothing troublesome and even though it was a trek from where I live it, the atmosphere made up for it. Bottom line? Nothing truly special here but still is a good time with the right people none the less.

Been going to Pete's for a while now. The previous reviews say it all. Pete's is: 1. The epitome of a dive bar 2. CASH ONLY 3. A good place to play pool 4. Pretty cool Pete's is *NOT*: 1. For the stuffed-shirt crowd 2. Expensive 3. An establishment whose women's restroom has a lockable door (bathroom buddy required :p) 4. Allowed to shut down Sure there are plenty of dives in the Jax region, but Pete's is an Atlantic Beach icon. Meet you at Pete's!
(3)Bryan L.
CASH ONLY! CASH ONLY! CASH ONLY!!!! If you learn nothing else from my review it's that Pete's is CASH ONLY. OK.. Now that we got that little formality out of the way.... Pete's is a great place to end the night. I don't know that i would START the night here, unless it was for some cheap beers to pre-game. Place allows smoking of cigars so long as you don't piss anyone off. I didn't. Solid joint with a real down to earth feel. Go where the locals go!!! I don't know if it's this place or not, but I felt like saying that.
(3)Darren R.
I've been to Pete's just about every time I have ventured out in my couple of weeks in Jax Beach. I love it. Drinks are strong and cheap. Service is quick. Pool is cheap. It is what it is. If you don't like smoking, don't go! this ain't the place for you. Cash only bar with an ATM available.
(5)Bill K.
A great old time saloon with Cold Beer and Cheap Pool!
(5)Callie P.
This is a staple for the beaches! Been here forever! The bartenders are very attentive and super friendly!
(5)Tanya S.
This is the ultimate dive bar in Jacksonville. Up north in Neptune/Atlantic beach, you can drink, smoke and play pool to your heart's delight! The only draw-back to this place is the cash only bar. While it adds to the dive bar experience, it would be nice if they finally accepted credit cards and spared us from the ATM machine. Regardless, I'll be back at Pete's soon.
(4)Michael Hosto H.
Gave it 5 stars but it is a dive. Bartenders have an attitude but that's just part of the alure.
(5)Shelley M.
Pete's Bar is a beaches institution (and a dive, but in a good way). Cheap beer (cash only!) and 25 cents to play pool. There's foozball and pingpong too. TV's are over the bars, of course, if you want to watch the game. There is a bar in the back room too. It's always smoky in Pete's, but that's part of the atmosphere. Check out their annual street party the day after Thanksgiving.
(3)Virginia M.
Smokey, cold, and PBR. What more could you ask for?
(5)Sondra B.
I miss this bar so much since I moved back to jersey... Yes it's a dive with 6 pool tables that only cost 25 cent to play... Affordable drinks... Local crowd. Oh and did I mention it was Hemingways favorite hurricane hole! Great bar
(5)Christine I.
Pete's bar is the definition for dive bar, you'll leave smelling like a pool hall after having an awesome time with some old and new friends. First off, it has a jukebox which automatically makes it a good night, but add the many games available to entertain you and you have a recipe for a great night! The only thing is they accept cash ONLY so make sure you have enough to go for a couple of rounds ...you'll need it! Even if you think you are staying for one drink, youre likely to stay for more.
(4)Brian A.
Pete's Bar. Simple, Eloquent, and Filthy. Just what a dive bar should embody. You might get ID'd at the door. You probably won't. Doesn't really seem to be too much of a concern here. The place is beautifully (tacky) decorated with old alcohol memorabilia and sports.... stuff. You'll find some old newspaper clippings about Pete's and the events it has held over the years if you looks close enough. There's also some interesting photos people have taken all over the world with Pete's shirts and hats on. Really gives you a grasp of how old it is. There's some debate that it actually holds the first liquor license issued in Jax. So the good things about Pete's: -25 cent pool -$3 Tall boy Budweiser -Free ping pong That's about it. But don't let that deter you. Come here on a friday night and you'll see a lively group playing pool between the front 3 tables, with everyone signing chalkboards to play next and heckling the person that just beat them. It's all in good fun and literally ANYONE is welcome. People from all walks of life come here. I've met local news producers, independent business owners, retired millionaires, Navy vets, deaf guys, and anyone else in between. No one is pretentious or stuck up. It's a really good feeling. I give Pete's a 4/5. The one pet peeve is that they only take cash. It's not that huge a deal, sometimes you just feel gouged having to use the ATM and getting a $2 charge just to buy a drink. Easily over looked though. Keep it up Pete, where ever you are.
(4)Jerry T.
Pete's is a real shit hole. I don't mean that in a bad way, but man it's a dive. When you walk in you can peer through the dim lighting and cigarette smoke haze at the open space and bearded patrons. There's a tall old wooden bar to the left that serves cheap beer. There might be a biker or and old barfly saddled up. To your right is a jukebox, a few pool tables (that you can play for a quarter!) and an old cigarette machine ($7). If you walk into the back hall you will pass some frightening looking bathrooms to the back room, which has a few more pool tables, ping pong, and another slightly smaller bar. All in all, if you are into dives this place is great. The crowd is actually pretty young, so most of the time so you won't be bumping elbows with too many bikers. Parking is about as bad as it is anywhere around Atlantic beach. CASH ONLY!
(4)Christy C.
That's right, I give it five stars. Just because it's a dive bar doesnt mean anyone should take off "points" in their review because it's not super decorated or ritzy or something; It DESERVES five stars for achieving the height of dive-dom, warts and all! (In fact, in my opinion, warts encouraged!) I LOVE how cheesy it is that the decor has nothing to offer but that trashy-living-room vibe; it makes you feel like you dont have to put up any fronts like other bars or clubs. And the drinks are made WELL and for cheap, what more could you ask for?? I had my very first drink in this bar: a rum and coke. $4!! That should honestly be enough to sway any non-believers. Dress super casual, drunkenly challenge your friends to foozball and bumper pool, and youll fit right in.
(5)Bryan W.
Best dive bar in North Florida hands down. If you dont walk of that place smelling like a mix between a thrift shop, and ash tray something went wrong. Tons of pool tables throughout, and even bumper pool! Trying to use a debit card there, you get a look at you like "what is that?" Definately need to have cash on hand. I miss they used to have instead of paper towels, a rotating cloth that everyone dried their hands with in the bathroom! Although not sanitary, very throwback to say the least. God bless this place!

I have been going into Pierre's By The Sea since I was maybe (SHHhh) 15-16. I was so young I had to hang with the old folks because the bartender (Pearl Keggin) knew my Mother and would call her. When I turned 18 and was finally legal it was a big surprise to most of the bartenders that have been serving me for years. Well now Pete's is 80 and I had to return again. It's almost like a high school reunion again. There were many many folks here that I grew up with. The drink are still (1.75) stiff and really cheap along with the .25 cent pool tables. It was nice to see the old place again and maybe it won't be another 5 years till I return. It's been real Mr. Jenson
(5)Adam K.
Thee best. Cheap pool and drinks, juke box and the dive bar feel to it. Large shots, unlike most beach places. .25 pool(6 tables) which you never find anymore, $1 everywhere here. Open 365 nights and till 130, unlike other bars in walking distance... Cool surrounding area too, for food and fun, block from the sand. One of few bars that is happening during happy hour times Ping pong - free, foosball, bumper pool..... Low ventilation, so can get smoky and warm in summer months. Tiny tv's too, so not much if you wanna catch a big game.
(5)Connie W.
Went to Pete's this Thanksgiving for Pete's Bloody Mary Thanksgiving! Got there late by usual standards, 10am. What a site! Sliders and a couple of other bars have joined in now and it is bigger than ever. Some folks have smartened up and brought their own beer to avoid the 30 minute wait in line! I think the comradere in line is half the fun. I think I will meet them half way next year, bring beer to drink while I wait in line for my traditional 2 bloody marys!! Yep, that'll work!! The rumour is this was the last year the city would issue the license, I will keep you posted.
(5)Rachel M.
Cheap, stiff drinks in a dark room decorated with guns and ceramics. Family owned for several generations and a block off the Ocean. There is nothing not awesome about this place.
(5)Hilary L.
Pete's is a total classic. The story goes that Pete's was the first bar to get a liquor license in Duval County after Prohibition ended. Walking in to the place, its easy to see why they are still one of the most popular spots in the area. The secrets to their success? Well, they have reasonable drink prices and really cheap pool and darts. Doesn't hurt that the bartenders are fast and friendly. The nearly beach front location is a major plus. But the best part about Pete's is the free and easy vibe created by the mix of beach bums, local regulars, weekend warriors, and curious tourists. Exciting and yet low key, this is the perfect bar atmosphere. The large number of pictures and mementos on the wall are testament to the decades of easy good times that have been had at Pete's. This local staple has even been featured prominently in John Grisham's novel "The Brethren". It's not just famous in Jacksonville, it's got national and international acclaim!! [wink wink] Keep in mind it might be a bit smoky, but other than that don't think twice. If you've never been, go. If you've been, go back.
(5)Diana M.
I want to give this bar 5 stars - I love it, such a cool place!! But I can't get over the nasty smoke. I just can't hang in that environment very long - which is a total bummer because this is such a great bar that I want to come every week!
(3)Gene P.
What can be said...it's a dive bar of the highest caliber. No hipsters allowed it appears. That said, if you go expect a dive bar, it's loud, smokey. The drinks are great (i.e. strong), the beer is very cold, and the pool tables are only a quarter. I thought I was the oldest one there (at 54) but I noticed a few other AARP members like myself mixed in with the younger ones and the occasional local.
(5)Deb T.
Dive bar. Oldest bar in Atlantic Beach. Pool tables and good music!
(4)Katie C.
Pete's Bar is an outright institution in Jacksonville Beach! The definition of a dive bar, Pete's is smoke-filled, packed with bar games, and one of the few spots at the beach where you'll find a juxebox. As someone who competes at bar games with the dedication of an Olympian, I'm always happy to end up at Pete's. Bumper pool, ping-pong and foosball round out the selection at this sizable pool hall, known for its (over?) abundance of bearded, drunk, old men. Pete's is cash-only so stop at the ATM before bellying up to the bar. Also, don't bother with a double cause they pour 'em strong. See you at Pete's!
(4)K V.
Local favorite. We take all of our out of town guests here and they love it!
(5)Ivan W.
Best Dive bar on the planet. bar-none. cheap strong drinks. zero idiots or club kids. just mostly locals unwinding!
(5)Patricia B.
Pete's is a local landmark and a classic! I am amazed when people complain about smoke in a DIVE BAR - what is your definition of a dive bar?? Pete's is a great place for cheap beer, strong drinks, pool, ping-pong and people-watching! And yes, it's cash only, which is one of the things I kind of love about it.
(5)Rocco F.
Bring cash or be ready to pay $2 for the ATM. You can purchase bottles of liquor for the road, but you're paying for it.
(3)Meghan L.
$0.25 pool games, cash only bar with cheap beer and good times. BE AWARE: this bar is FULL of smoke. It is unavoidable. If you don't mind that, this is a great local dive - Hemingway actually chilled out here... It's a local must. Thanksgiving is great too - they shut down the street and black out the windows and party the whole morning. good vibe. 5 pool tables on rotation by winner, fuseball table, ping pong and a couple of video games - mostly pool and chilling here though. Good beach days, you'll see this bar is packed with bikers stopping by for a drink.
(4)Matt B.
Love it for all of Brandon's reasons + cheap pool tables. Also love the fact that an old guy wearing a joutfit made fun of the hat I was wearing one night. Not sure about smelling salt as you walk in the door, but definitely nicotine before you even hit the door. My friends and I love bars like Pete's, but the smoke is too much for us most of the time. With that said, Thanksgiving morning is awesome at Pete's! I was always skeptical, but finally gave in and went this past Turkey Day. They close off 1st St. and sell beer, bloody's, and mimosas, and the street is packed with locals hanging out before family festivities commence. The downside, I think my girlfriend still hates me after stumbling home and passing out for the rest of the day after too many PBR tallboys. Control your euphoria and you won't ruin Thanksgiving for your family!
(3)Rana M.
Pete's Bar is the ultimate "Dive Bar". It is, in my opinion, a landmark and must visit part of Jacksonville Beach. There is absolutely nothing fancy about it but that is the appeal of it. I have lived in Jacksonville, FL almost my entire life and I have been to this bar a few times but I had never been on Thanksgiving day. I went today for the first time to experience the "indoor-outdoor party". To me, it was like Dancing in the Streets without the vendors but more local beach folks. It was a pretty neat experience. They have Bloody Marys on the ready, beer on tap in souvenier cups, PBR (of course), any other cocktail imaginable, a variety of bottle beer and they even have an annual T-Shirt for the event. The fun part is going down there and people watching. People come down dressed in crazy costumes, crazy hats and everyone is there to have a good time and a couple drinks with family and friends. If you do not like a crowd, this is not an event for you. I have nothing bad to say about Pete's, it is what it is.
(4)Brandon G.
Man o' man do i dig this bar. What a dive. You can almost smell the salt as soon as you walk in this place, and in a good way. Oldest bar on the beach. This places transcends time and cliqueyness....yeah that's right I made up a word. Seriously though, everyone from every generations here at anytime on any given day. No food but who cares this isn't a trendy bar where you come to see and be seen this place is for one thing, getting drunk and playing ping-pong. HELL YA !!!! A bar with a ping-pong table. Finally . If only there was more Johnny Cash on the only juke box, this place would be perfect. Cheap drinks. Check. Ping-pong table. Check. People just being people hanging out and dropping the bullshit at the door. Check. Pete's Bar = Good time. Oh yeah and by the way.......Ernest f-ing Hemingway pissed here, the sign in the mensroom says so.
